The charge of the PCABC IRB sub-committee
was to develop uniformity or commonality of IRB policies among participating
institutions with respect to the collection, banking and sharing of tumor tissues
and other biological samples for research. In deciding the best approach to
this rather complex issue of establishing synchronicity among multiple institutions,
the sub-committee took into consideration:
Prospective study: discussion of model consents for new collection
of tumor tissues and blood samples at one institution for possible sharing
with several institutions
Retrospective study: discussion of availability of banked biosamples for
sharing with other institutions
Adequacy of current consents for sharing data and tissue
De-identification procedures in place at each institution
